Co-organized by Asian Institute of Technology Vietnam (AITVN) and United Nations University

Sustainability Education – Design concept and curriculum development:

New educational programs related to sustainability science have been developed or under consideration in many higher education institutions all over the world including Asia. Asia is a key region in the context of global sustainability and different problems ranging over environmental, economic and social issues can be seen as different forms in different countries. The present session deals with relevant design concepts through which an educational program in sustainability science should be structured, developed and offered. We will discuss how specific environmental, economic and social conditions in different regions/countries affect the design of educational programs in sustainability science especially in Asia in terms of target students, core subjects, pedagogy and curriculum structure. We also consider how the curriculum should deal with cross-regional and multi-disciplinary factors in sustainability education in Asia, because expected students are internationally diverse and inter/trans-disciplinarity is recognized as a key factor in the design concept in most cases.
